FAOSTAT greenhouse gas emissions from all sectors (with PRIMAP-hist v2.7)
Two FAOSTAT domains of the Climate Change: Agrifood systems emissions group. Emissions totals (GT): emissions of CO2, CH4, N2O and F-gases, and their CO2-equivalent (AR5 GWP100), in kilotonnes, for the IPCC sectors Energy, Industrial processes and product use (IPPU), Agriculture, Land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF, net of the forest sink), Waste and Other, their total with and without LULUCF, and the agrifood-system items, by country and region, 1990-2023 for the totals. FAO computes Agriculture and LULUCF itself (Tier 1); Energy, IPPU, Waste and Other are the PRIMAP-hist v2.7 third-party-priority series (Gütschow, Busch and Pflüger, 2025). Emissions indicators (EM): FAO's own shares of each item in the all-sector total (by CO2-equivalent and by gas) and emissions per person, per value of agricultural production and per hectare of agricultural land, 1990-2023.

Status
- Programme
- The emissions domains (GT, EM) were last updated 28 October 2025 with data to 2023. FAO's documentation names PRIMAP-hist v2.4 for the non-farm sectors, but the values are v2.7 (see the registry file's header); which version and terms apply is a question still to be asked of FAO. FAO is not on the January 2026 US withdrawal memorandum (FR Doc 2026-00976).
- Updates
- Annual, each October-November. DateUpdate in datasets_E.json changes with each release, but zips are sometimes re-uploaded later.
- Next release
- 2026-10-31: FAO's 2026 release calendar lists FAOSTAT Emissions totals (data to 2024) under October 2026 without a day; 31 October is the end of that window. The PRIMAP-hist version and its terms must be re-checked at that release.
