Global Internal Displacement Database (GIDD)
Validated annual estimates of internal displacement from 2008 to 2025. Internal displacements are movements, not people: one person forced to move twice in a year is counted twice, and pre-emptive evacuations are included. The country file gives, for each country and year, internal displacements and the number of people still displaced at year end, separately for disasters and for conflict and violence. The event file lists each disaster with its hazard category, type and sub-type (CRED EM-DAT classification), start date and displacements. Figures are estimates that IDMC revises between releases.

GIDD annual export, one row per country and year, 2008-2025: Disaster Internal Displacements and Disaster Stock Displacement (rounded and raw), the same for conflict and violence, plus a README sheet and IDMC's notes on each figure. HTTP 403 without client_id on 2026-10-04. Until the API key arrives, a person opens the GIDD page (https://www.internal-displacement.org/database/displacement-data/), presses "Excel" under "Annual displacement data" (the same export, all years), and records the file with `uv run envdash snapshot add --source idmc-gidd --file <path>`.

Status

- The GIDD covering 2008-2025 was released with the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2026 (12 May 2026, doi:10.55363/IDMC.ETWG8973); the verifier found the export README dated 31 August 2026, so figures change between annual releases and each snapshot is kept. IDMC is part of the Norwegian Refugee Council; not a US federal product.
