Deaths from outdoor air pollution with and without fossil fuels, 2019 (Lelieveld et al. 2023, data deposit)
The data behind Lelieveld et al. 2023 (BMJ): modelled excess deaths from all causes due to outdoor fine particles (PM2.5) and ozone in 2019, for the world, 27 Global Burden of Disease regions and 200 countries, in a reference run and in runs with all fossil-fuel emissions removed, half or a quarter of them removed, and all human-made emissions removed. Exposure comes from the EMAC atmospheric chemistry model with 2019 emissions and NASA satellite-based fine particles; deaths come from the FUSION relative-risk model applied to Global Burden of Disease 2019 baseline mortality. Deaths are modelled, not counted.
