Climate impact of solutions at different levels of adoption (Project Drawdown)

How much each climate solution assessed by Project Drawdown reduces or removes greenhouse gas emissions each year worldwide: at today's adoption, across the range of adoption Drawdown considers achievable in the next 5 to 25 years, and at the adoption ceiling, a theoretical maximum that probably cannot be reached. Impacts of different solutions overlap and cannot be added up. For renewable electricity the ceiling reflects technical potential only, not power demand.

Latest value

1.60Gt CO₂e/yr

What was done to it

  1. Read the table of climate impact by adoption level from the results sheet of 28 solution spreadsheets, checking the title, the four level headers and any row labels of each table cell by cell against the layout declared for that spreadsheet.

    Code: pipeline/src/envdash/transforms/action/drawdown_explorer.py · code sha256 d2d6ba22ffd549dc… · inputs f3fe54001197… 6d015bc81807… 5f7a8a7b5f9d… 482d66b05493… e9b211dae147… 026db9d6a2c4… 7bc9427a7d0c… 65cf95226dec… f1bb5db37b0d… 65511c069d25… ababf3bf5294… 08623adce646… 18bd819ecf5a… c3271a6e6131… 425e173b19f0… 310bd4df62af… 7c273dc286a4… 84f722e13cd4… 6177a89fd2bd… d7e8a6328ec3… c043139becd9… 78eb1ed0974b… 33249b3b8930… 6aabf765b32c… f949fe1e007d… 1e894c20025f… e641ea125080… 9eba37098c0c…

  2. Published 136 values for 28 solutions as the spreadsheets give them (cached cell values, billion tonnes of CO2-equivalent per year), on the warming-potential basis each table states. 2 cells that hold text instead of a number are published as missing values, with the text.

  3. Solutions whose spreadsheets give impacts only per sub-solution, by year, or without a stated basis are not published (see the transform's notes).

What it covers

Geography
World, each solution as a whole (system level)
Basis
Project Drawdown's 2026 assessments against a 2023 baseline; impacts assume each solution's effectiveness stays as it is today. Gases are combined with 100-year or 20-year warming potentials as each spreadsheet states (dimension 'basis'); the two are not comparable.
Unit
billion tonnes of CO2-equivalent per year (Gt CO₂e/yr)
